Good Housekeeping
Design and construction of a dedicated cookery school, demonstration kitchen, product testing facilities, offices and meeting room for Hearst Magazines, owners of the ‘Good Housekeeping’ brand.
Lead architectural role in the design and coordination of the Good Housekeeping Institute for Hearst UK. The institute occupies the lower ground and ground floors of a busy pedestrian-only street, deep in the heart of Soho. Originally a Banana Warehouse, the spaces benefitted from being open plan, with relatively high ceilings, lightwells and cast iron columns. Hearst requested that the institute encompass a multitude of uses – the GHI concept represents the accessible public face of the magazine: Where members of the public could visit the GHI cookery school; where celebrity chefs could film their next series; and where food-related private companies could hold their high profile corporate events. The lower level was designated as a complete testing facility for recipes, products, gadgets and consumerables, where the results are published.
